Assoc. Prof. Dr. Stefan Lang

    Stefan Lang is Vice-Dean at the Faculty of Digital and Analytical Sciences at PLUS, and heads the Christian Doppler Laboratory GEOHUM. His main scientific achievements include conceptual and methodological developments in hybrid AI, object-based image analysis (OBIA), data integration and assimilation, regionalisation of multi-dimensional spatial data, scientific foundation of the geon concept. He has fostered the use of remote sensing and spatial analysis in various application domains including humanitarian action, biodiversity and ecosystem monitoring, landscape analysis and planning, disaster response and risk reduction, vulnerability assessment, climate change adaptation, renewable energies, population mapping. He is one of the cofounders of the Copernicus Academy and promotes the uptake of Earth observation (EO) data and other geospatial information (GI) services, focusing on user requirements, quality assurance, workflow optimization, product validation, user validation, integration of EO*GI methodological concepts. He is the president of a regional private institute (GI-PLUS) that acts as an enabler of geospatial technologies in local transboundary applications. He is the academic chair of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master ‘Copernicus in Digital Earth’ and the academic coordinator within the Erasmus+ Skills Alliance EO4GEO.
